Senior center offers 'Scam Stopper' seminar

Reservations are being taken for a "Scam Stopper" seminar scheduled for Feb. 16. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Joslyn Senior Center, 73-750 Catalina Way. A complimentary lunch will be served after the presentation. The event is hosted by Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit.

Benoit, YMCA gathering cell phones for seniors

Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit and the local YMCA offices are collecting cell phones for seniors. The donation drive is part of the Riverside County Office on Aging's 9-1-1 Emergency Cell Phone Program. They will be delivered to senior residents who live alone or with caregivers and have difficulty reaching a stationary phone.

John Benoit donates $15,000 to Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley

Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit presented the Boys & Girls Club of the Coachella Valley with $15,000 during an assembly for nearly 200 children at the La Quinta club Friday. The funds will be split between the La Quinta, Indio and Coachella Boys & Girls Clubs for general support, Benoit said.

John Benoit of Bermuda Dunes will resign from the California Senate today. On Tuesday, he will be sworn as the Riverside County supervisor representing the 4th District, which covers most of the Coachella Valley.

Benoit is the proper successor

The late Roy Wilson did an excellent job representing the Coachella Valley on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors for 15 years. His successor should be the best possible representative available. The Desert Sun agrees with the choice made by Wilson himself: state Sen. John Benoit, R-Bermuda Dunes.

Benoit's Good Samaritan law signed

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday announced he's signed the Good Samaritan Protection Act, providing legal immunity for emergency service volunteers who help out when needed. SB 39, by Sen. John Benoit, R-Bermuda Dunes, was one of two bills designed to strengthen California's Good Samaritan law.
